The Bellingham Chamber Board Chairman asked the staff in the beginning of the year to increase membership by 20%. He also asked us to increase retention of current members by 5%. Measurable goals. Attainable goals. Real goals. So we came up with a couple ideas.
First, we tried to persuade our Board of Directors to give each of our members $100. That didn’t go over as well as we would have liked.
Then we asked them to reduce membership dues. Only if the difference comes out of our paychecks was their response.
Finally we requested upgrading their membership to the next level at no additional charge. They asked if we were out of our minds.
Then it clicked. How about we combine all of these ideas and offer it for a limited time?
“Go on…” they said.
Here’s how it works:
Beginning April 10 and continuing through Friday May 8, the Chamber will offer an incentive for new and current members. One that will reduce membership fees for current members when they renew, but only when they successfully bring a new member to the Chamber. The more new members they bring, the more they can save on their renewal. There is no limit to the amount of members you can bring in, so in theory you could become a Chairman’s Club Member at no cost to you!
Example:
Bring in 1 new member = Get $100 off you next renewal
Bring in 2 new members = Get $200 off your next renewal
Bring in 3 new members = Get $300 off your next renewal or get your Supporting memberhship for free
Bring in 4 new members = Get $400 off your next renewal or upgrade to a Basic membership for only $125
And so on…
If you sign up as a new member during this time, you will instantly save money, increase your investment and exposure by upgrading your membership level to the next highest tier at no cost and get extra marketing when we talk about you on our radio program and in our weekly newsletter.
Example:
Sign up as a Supporting member, the setup fee is waived and you are upgraded to a Basic membership for free for the first year. An instant savings of $40 and an upgrade of $240. All told, the increased value is $280 with no increase of investment.
Sign up as a Basic member, the setup fee is waived and you are upgraded to a Standard membership for free for the first year. An instant savings of $30 and an upgrade valued at $270. This added value is $300, at no additional cost.
And we’ve gone a step further…
For every new member you bring to the chamber, you will be eligible to win one of our weekly prizes. The first week we’ll be giving away a luxury night out, complete with limousine service courtesy of RPM Limo to and from the Silver Reef Hotel Casino & Spa and dinner for two at The Steak House.
