Getting Involved: One of the best ways to acquaint yourself with a new community is by volunteering.  The Whatcom Volunteer Center has hundreds of positions available each month with a wide range of companies.

WhatcomCounts.org is a o­ne-stop source for information o­n community health in Whatcom County. It provides the resources to find data, learn about the issues, and determine effective methods for lasting improvement.

General: Whatcom county consists of 2,126 square miles and is located in the northwest corner of Washington State overlooking Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands. The largest city and county seat is Bellingham. The other major towns are Ferndale, Lynden, and Blaine.
 
Elevation ranges from sea level to a high of 10,788 at Mt. Baker. The eastern portion consists of the Mt. Baker Wilderness area and a portion of the North Cascades National Park. This section is mainly rugged mountainous area. The Mt. Baker Ski area is considered one of the best in the Northwest.
